J.S. Bach: Motet BWV 225 'Singet dem Herrn'(주께 감사의 새 노래를 부르자)

모테트(Motet)는 중세 시대의 교회음악에서 중요한 성악곡의 명칭중 하나입니다.

Motet(영), Motette(독), Mottetto(이) ,Motet(프), Motetus(라틴어).

원래 높은 테너 파트의 위성부(라틴어 duplum, 테너파트 소리보다 위에 있는 소리의 모음 창법)를 뜻하는데

여기서는 그 높은 소리에 음절을 붙입니다

예를 들자면 이 BWV 225번을 듣다보면 모음으로 숨가쁘게 합창을 하는 부분이 여러 부분이 있습니다.

근데 거기에 다 가사가 붙여진 것이지요. 이게 완전히 고난이도의 부분이거든요.

가사가 붙여진 후, 이것을 모테트라고 표현하기 시작했습니다.

듣기는 쉽고 감미롭기까지 하지만 

실제로 노래하기에는 굉장히 어렵고 엄청난 연습과 실제 합창에서 서로간의 호흡이 중요한~

(다른 위성부(duplum)에 관한 용어를 검색하다 보면, 다 천편 일률적으로 테너파트 위에 있는 소리 이런 말만 합니다) 

모음으로 합창을 하는 창법이었기 때문에 

주로 장례예배때나 교회의 일종의 송영부분(찬송가에 보면 입례송,폐회송등에서 주로 많이 차용됩니다. 아멘송과 더불어)에서

불려지고 그야말로 장엄하고 아름다운 성악의 부분입니다.

그것을 계승하고 더욱 발전시켜서 

여기 바하의 모테트에서는 다성(Polyphony)의 화음으로까지 발전시키게 됩니다.

그렇기에 더욱 아름답고 이곡을 들은 사람들은 마치 천국의 음악 같다고 표현할 정도로

멜로디와 하모니의 그 우아함과 완벽한 합창의 조화는 정말 천상의 하모니이지요.

단 위의 악보를 보셨다면 얼마나 그 하모니를 맞추는 것이 고난이도 과정인지 이해하실 것입니다.

원래의 예배와 종교행사적인 음악의 수준을 훨씬 상회하는

예술적 가치가 더해진 아름다운 합창의 하모니로 바하의 모테트가 불려지는 것, 그것입니다.

바하의 모테트는 여러 합창단이 공연하고 음반도 종류가 많은데요.

Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied, Die Gemeine der Heiligen Sollen ihn loben. Israel freue sich des, der ihn gemacht hat. Die Kinder Zion sei’n fröhlich Über ihrem Könige, Sie sollen loben seinen Namen Im Reichen; Mit Pauken und Harfen Sollen sie ihm spielen.	Sing to the Lord a new song. Let the commonwealth of saints Praise him. Let Israel rejoice in him who made them. Let the children of Zion take joy  In their King. Let them praise his name In the dance. Let them play to him On the timbrel and harp. (Psalm 149:1–3)
Chorale (Choir 2) Wie sich ein Vater erbarmet Über seine junge Kinderlein, So tut der Herr uns allen, So wir ihn kindlich fürchten rein. Er kennt das arm Gemächte, Gott weiß, wir sind nur Staub, Gleichwie das Gras vom Rechen, Ein Blum und fallend Laub! Der Wind nur drüber wehet, So ist es nicht mehr da, Also der Mensch vergehet, Sein End das ist ihm nah. Aria (Choir 1) Gott, nimm dich ferner unser an, Denn ohne dich ist nichts getan Mit allen unsern Sachen, Drum sei du unser Schirm und Licht, Und trügt uns unsre Hoffnung nicht, So wirst du’s ferner machen. Wohl dem, der sich nur steif und fest Auf dich und deine Huld verläßt.	God, continue to look after us, For without you All our affairs come to nothing. Therefore be our shield and light, And if our hope does not deceive us, You shall continue to be so. Happy are those who firmly insist On putting their trust in you and your favor.
